The phenomemon known as the Daddy-Daughter Dance
Or, as the guy standing next to me put it ... the "abandoned-Daddy-Daughter Dance", since the protocol for the evening is mostly all the little girls running around the dance floor enjoying each others' company, while all the dads look on wistfully.

Actually, she's not that bad on the dance floor.  Of course, taking dance lessons helps immensely ... I could see her throwing a dance move or two in there as the thought hit.

But, hey ... she had fun.  So I tried to amuse myself by trying to figure out the bass lines in all the girl-band rock ballads.  Every now and then I have to fake a bass line on the keyboard at church, so learning a few basic riffs can't hurt.

Of course, then I was unexpectedly exposed to this:

Am I so old that they're starting to do remixes of stuff I saw in freakin' grad school?  Somebody get a cane for the old man ...

(Of course ... the remix is actually pretty good.  So maybe I can put off getting that AARP card for a few years, yet ...)

Current Mood: contemplativecontemplative

I don't know which is weirder - having songs remixed from things I saw when I was 6 (okay, not quite so weird as when they'll be remixing Backstreet Boys or Avril Lavinge, but still), or the just slightly post-pubescent singer attempting rock chic and just skirting looking sexual while singing a song about, let's be honest, what is essentially sexual opportunism. I suppose it's the suggestion of the remix style itself that suggests that reading - and the fact it's a female singing now, not a male.

Also - love the little (accidental?) homage to Back to the Future with the whole Under the Sea dance (which is of course another 'kiss the girl' moment ;-)).

And now I will have that song stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Bah! ;-)

Oh, I can induce far more insidious earworms ... be careful, or I'll switch to math-induced geek love songs ...

I had missed the whole Under the Sea bit. Might've been just a happy accident, I suppose ... though I suppose the "Under The Sea High School Dance" isn't exactly an original, either.

And, yes, the nature of the video certainly adds an interesting reading onto the lyrics ...

The whole daddy/daughter thing seems to be fading (perhaps no more than family dinners/quality time). I just happened to have reservations at the Fenton Hotel on daddy/daughter Saturday, but I didn't see many daddy/daughter tables. Not being a daddy or a daughter I was pleased. I might think the economy (it seems like no matter how bad the economy is every resturant in town has a wait on a friday or saturday night, the things people are unwilling to give up...even when they should) was at fault, but the place was full, just not with the number of daddy/daughters I was expecting.
