Five-Minute Friday: Excuse
Today's five-minute writing prompt appears courtesy of Five Minute Friday.
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (Joshua 1:8)
Hallelujah! Absolutely! Let's all agree to follow the word of the Lord.
Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 5:44)
Well, that's great. Except that I have to get on Facebook in a few minutes because I'm having a fight with someone who voted for The Other Candidate for President last year, and I really have to show them how evil their candidate is. Because our choice of president is Really Important.
Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. (Luke 18:16)
Sure. But I really wish parents would keep their squirmy kids out of the sanctuary, because they're awfully distracting to us adults who are just trying to listen to the sermon. Why can't kids behave these days?
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. (Matthew 5:28)
Well, it's her fault. If she wasn't dressed so attractively, I wouldn't be looking at her lustfully in the first place.
If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. (Matthew 18:15)
I couldn't possibly confront them directly. I'll just talk to the pastor about it instead. Oh, and my small group. And my prayer partner. And the folks at the Wednesday prayer meeting. That won't possibly cause any problems.
So, what's your excuse?
