See, here's the story ...

We have an old video cabinet which has a lock on it ... the lock's primary purpose is to keep the thing from swinging open and hurting passers-by, since there are videos in the doorway.  And then we got new cabinets and then didn't need the old one anymore, so the locking cabinet got exiled to the basement.  And then someone decided to put some junk that didn't have a home into the cabinet.  And then the basement got cleaned.  And then there was a birthday party with a dozen 6 year olds in the basement.   And then I went down and discovered that this cabinet, which always had the key hanging in the lock, didn't have the key hanging in the lock anymore ...

I agree. However, I think that the key concept here is "almost". Well, on second thought, I can see the disorienting effect of a "dozen 6-year olds". That would do it for me!
