Had to turn in my nifty neato laptop to IT today, so they can try and figure out why it only charges the battery when it feels like it. Sigh. Now I don't get to take it to Clemson for the AP exam next week. Guess it's time to dig out that really old Win98 laptop I haven't tried to boot-up in over a year. (sob!)

Ahh, the laptop charging port. Bane of my existence for a short while.

With my laptop, the charging port sat in a plastic mount. The mount loosened over time to the point that the contacts were no longer making a connection. Jiggling the port will eventually make it work.

I got lucky, too. The tech said that often the port is integrated onto the system board, and if that were the case, the board would need to get replaced.

Hope you don't get bit by that.

98? Ninety-eight? The bane of all computers ever?

Oh, you poor man. ;)

Come now, Amy. Windows 98 wasn't the worst product to come out of Redmond. My eternal seething hate is reserved for Windows ME.

Windows 98, however, only had maybe 5 or 6 legit copies.

Maybe not the worst ever... but certainly worthy of the title bane. ;)

ME I could never figure out the point of. I'm just a layman geek type when it comes to that sort of thing, so I might just be totally off. :)

ME was a stopgap release made when the grand unification effort that was XP was not ready as scheduled. Regrettably, there were a host of technical problems with ME. On most of my other machines, I avoided the problem entirely by sticking with Win98 until XP was released.
