The AP CS Reading, Day Zero

I'm now at Clemson University, getting ready to read the AP Computer Science Exam. I did this two years ago for the first time and had an absolute blast. It's great to be back.

Of course ...

  • Figures that it's this week that all heck breaks loose back on campus with regard to campus politics. Sucks to try and monitor it all via email.
  • I'm living in a dorm room again ... indoor-outdoor carpeting, shared bathrooms, cinderblock walls. How in the world did I ever live in a small space like this for nine years (not counting summers)? (Maybe that explains why I'm a little crazy ...)
  • It's weird being with a bunch of pseudo-strangers. I alternate between being incredibly shy when I'm standing alone in a big crowd, and being incredibly outgoing when someone draws me into a discussion, or a game of bridge, or a game of Apples to Apples. I'm weird that way.
  • Turns out I actually can enjoy playing bridge with a bunch of novices, if we turn the event into a teaching session. And teachers appreciate the opportunity to learn. A whole lot less frustrating than I thought it would be.
  • I may have gotten my first choice of questions to read. Woot!
  • Managed to get my Win98 laptop down here and working well enough to be manageable. I'd still have preferred to have my DVD player with me, but such is life. Guess I'll have to live without my West Wing DVDs for awhile.
  • Gotta figure out what other radio stations I can get from my room. The clearest signal I've found so far is from an easy-listening station. It is really, really weird to sit here and listen to "Man in the Mirror" done in Musak ...
  • Next year they're moving to The College of New Jersey for the reading. Aww ... I was just starting to like Clemson. I hope TCNJ is as attractive a campus. (That's all assuming I go, of course.)

Need to start slowing down so I can get to sleep ... we start awfully early tomorrow morning ...
