On voting technology

Why push electronic voting machines?  (from lohud.com)

This is one of the few commentaries I've seen on the issue which notes something I've noticed for a long time: part of the reason that counting votes is so difficult is that we put an artificial time constraint on it.  Who would really care if it took a couple of days for the election results to be made available?
